It is too a single from various compilation albums released in Europe.

The single was a huge success in Sweden as well as the rest of Europe, and tin can be considered her biggest hitting yet, together with "Satellites". In her homeland of Sweden, "Weep for Y'all" peaked at the number half-dozen position on the Swedish Meridian 60 Singles Nautical chart for two weeks in a row. It remained on the singles chart in Sweden for 17 non-sequent weeks.

In tardily 2018, nearly 12 years after its release, the song was turned into a meme on Twitter, thanks to its "you'll never run into me again" lyrics.[3]

Composition and release [edit]

Before the worldwide release in 2007, September had originally recorded the song for her studio anthology In Orbit (2005). Notwithstanding, in many compilations September has released, the vocal has appeared on her compilations including September, Dancing in Orbit, Gilded and Cry for You - The Album. According to September, she explained the reason why she wanted to release it worldwide, by saying "The song was so strong past itself. And I've been there and it feels similar the fans are starved of dance music. Simply at present dance music is coming back again, and the world is getting smaller and smaller considering of the internet – that now sometimes you don't fifty-fifty have to do much promotion, although apparently information technology is still very of import. Just I recollect that a striking song volition always find a way."[4]

In an interview with Digital Spy, they asked about the background of the song, when she replied:[4]

"It's nigh when you're washed with human relationship. A lot of people write to me and say 'Information technology'south actually emotional and I experience and then much for the song because my young man la la la', which is really nice for me, even though I didn't write the lyrics. I've had a lot of experiences similar that so that'southward what gives me the nervus to sing it."

The song features a trip the light fantastic toe-pop,[5] Europop[half-dozen] [7] and house[viii] sound and has been compared to Bronski Beat's "Smalltown Male child" and its sampled counterpart, "Tell Me Why" by Supermode, although possible similarities take been declared unintended.[9]

Critical reception [edit]

"Cry for You lot" received positive reviews from music critics. Nick Levine from Digital Spy awarded the song with four stars out of five, giving it a positive review. He stated "[...] it's a surprisingly affecting Eurodance number, a record that's both relentlessly danceable and desperately sad" and said its "really a pretty decent record."[10] However, he felt the song was not "original" enough to outbet releases by swain Swedish singer Robyn. Popjustice said the song is a "massive balls-out club canticle and we think it works rather well."[11] Ben Norman from About.com called the song the "All-time Dance Crossover Rail", while proverb "Robbins [Entertainment] has since made peace with me by backing and promoting Swedish vocaliser September and this Europop confection. Good job guys!."[12]

AllMusic had rated the song iii-and-a-half-stars out of v stars.[13] K. Ross Hoffman, also from AllMusic, had highlighted the song equally an album standout, and said "'Cry [for You]' is the obvious standout, managing to conjure both composure and a surprising degree of emotion from its fairly pedestrian frothy electro-pop arrangement and polished simply powerful song turn."[14] Withal, he also added "'Cry for You' is a strong enough track (though fairly faceless as well, in its way) [...]." PopBytes.com gave it a positive review, saying it'due south "total pop dance fluff merely highly enjoyable."[15]
